Computer Security & Viruses/computer

Question
Every 6 months or so my computer starts running really slow as it does now. Also, everyday a rectangular dialogue box says "your virtual memory is too low increase the size of your memory immediately" or something like that. When I press "ok" some open websites closes. Also, my antispyware program always says "no spyware found" yet the machines runs super slow. If I download new antispyware programs they all interfere and the machine runs even slower. Is there anything I can do rather than paying a tech person again? The latest problem started when I tried to download a music mp3. I also use registry cleaner/fixer. Also i have AVG antivirus but it never detects viruses. What can I do to prevent this in the future?

Answer
