Seems like every few months my internet surfing becomes very slow, especially after I download something. I bring it to a repair shop and they fix it. I know little about computers or software. What software (s) do I need to best protect my computer from becoming very very slow again. I'm not sure the difference between antivirus, firewall, anti spyware etc... Right now it runs turtle slow and takes about 4 minutes to opena new window/screen. Also when I have more than 2 or 3 windows/screens open it says "your system is low on virtual memory. to ensure that windows runs properly, increase the size of your virtual memory paging file. for more information, see help" I just installed spybot and it found a few erros and fixed them but it still runs just as slow. I also used FREE WINDOWS REGISTRY REPAIR and it finds problems repairs them but the machine still runs just as slow.
Answer Hi Al
Please download ComboFix from here and save to your desktop: http://www.techsupportforum.com/sectools/sUBs/ComboFix.exe
Please disable your antivirus application for now, as this may interfere with the removal process.
Doubleclick combofix.exe
Follow the prompts.
Note - Your internet connection will be terminated while ComboFix runs. Do Not attempt to re-enable it. Should ComboFix terminate prematurely, restart the computer to restore connectivity.
Don't use your mouse or keyboard while the fix is running, because that will cause your system to hang.
When finished and after reboot (in case it rebooted), combofix will open again to gather the necessary information for the log. This may take a bit. When done, Combofix will close and a log should open, combofix.txt.
