Computer Security & Viruses/XP SP 3

Question
Hi Brian,
Sorry to bother you again.  I downloaded SP 3 like you had suggested and it went fine.  Just prior to download a Microsoft message says that they recommend closing all running programs so I closed my AV programs (Hauri & ThreatFire) and Zone Alarm, as well as 3 other programs in my tray that are part of the start menu.  When my wife downloads SP 3, in your opinion, is it necessary to close her AV program and Zone Alarm?  Thanks much, cheers!  Steen

Answer
Hi Steen

Not a bother at all.  Yes, the installation process will go much smoother if you take the time to close all your running programs first.  This is true of most installations, but especially one that writes a great deal of information to the system files, such as SP3 does.  Good luck!

Brian
