About Lorry
Expertise
I can answer most questions regarding viruses/Trojans and help to remove them.

Experience
This happens to be of interest to me as it boggles my mind that people have nothing better to do than to write a virus. Wish these people, the ones who write viruses would put the knowledge to good use instead. My job as a local tech involves removing viruses and/or spyware.

Computer Security & Viruses - Log Off virus

Expert: Lorry - 9/28/2008

Question
When I select a user using XP home edition, I may see my screen and then it immediately turns XP off and restarts the computer.  I believe I got the problem from the intenet by doing the following.
I allowed access to my computer from a site the couldn't be verified.  I recieved a security warning about bad files about things the could be on my computer and another message asking me if I wanted to be protected or run unprotected.   I selected unprotected.

I can start the computer in safe mode but don't know how to correct the problem.  I am using my wife's computer as my is not working.
Walter Pretzel is my real name.

Answer
Hi Walter,

Am assuming that you have an anti-virus program installed, if correct, start Windows in Safe Mode and run a virus scan. If wrong, try downloading AVG from:

http://www.download.com/AVG-Anti-Virus-Free-Edition/3000-2239_4-10320142.html

Put it on a floppy/CD and install on your computer. After running the scan, you may either do a search for the virus name or let me know and I'll do it for you.

Check out the following from Microsoft:

Hope this helps!
Lorry
