Question I have windows 2000 xphome edition. I uninstalled some service packs because when I downloaded MS service pack I could not click onto ANY webisites anymore. I called the techs and spent forever and nothing worked. When I uninstalled it, I was able to open my favorites again. Now my problem is that I cannot open any files or attachments that people send me and cannot access files on the internet. When I click open file, I get the iexplore red icon that says Access Violation at address followed by lots of letters/numbers then AVGTOO and more letters/numbers. Would a registry cleaner help? Dont know what to do.
Answer Hi Rosemary
As a rule, I don't recommend using registry cleaners. I would first like to check for malware to eliminate that as a possible cause of the errors. Please download HijackThis to your desktop from here:
http://www.trendsecure.com/portal/en-US/_download/HJTInstall.exe
Double-click on the file you just downloaded.
Click on the "Install" button.
Upon install, HijackThis should open for you.
Choose 'Do a system scan and save a log file'.
Copy the text file which opens in Notepad and paste it in a follow-up here.
