Computer Security & Viruses - browser/internet

Question
I have used Internet Explorer as my browser for years.  I only recently learned that there were other options, and that Explorer could be a bad pick.  I now use Firefox, but still have Explorer on my system.  I use Outlook as my email program.  I'd like to uninstall Explorer, but not lose Outlook.  I looked in control panel under 'add remove programs', but didn't see Outlook listed.  I am worried that  I'll lose it if I just uninstall the Explorer.  Can you tell me how to uninstall explorer and leave outlook intact?
Thanks

Answer
Outlook is not as secure as using online email such as yahoo, hotmail, and google. I use Firefox but keep IE on my PC because some sites (rare but it happens) are not supported by Firefox. It is not going to hurt anything if you have both browsers on your PC.

What I would really like to stress to you is the insecurity of Outlook. When using Outlook emails are downloaded to your PC. When using online email you are looking at them on a server. Nothing is downloaded to your computer unless it is an attachment or you want it to be.

One of the first rules of PC security is don't use outlook.

If I can help you further, let me know.
