AnswerThe good news is, unlike most people who contact me at Allexperts, it looks like your computer only has one problem. You've done the right things in using Firefox instead of IE, and a high quality antivirus program, McAfee.
You are correct in wanting to remove Antivirus 2009. Did you intall it byourself because of responding to a fraudulent advertisement? Or did something identified as Antivirus 2009 t7urn up on your computer without you purposely installing it?
The reason I'm asking is that none of its usual signatures are in your Hijack This log. They should look something like this:
O2 - BHO: &Research - {037C7B8A-151A-49E6-BAED-CC05FCB50328} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\winsrc.dll
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [75319611769193918898704537500611] C:\Program Files\Antivirus 2009\av2009.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [ieupdate] "C:\WINDOWS\system32\ieupdates.exe"
For this reason, I'm suspicious that this may be a different malware program that calls itself the same thing, or else a new version of Antivirus 2009 that doesn't creaet these old signatures.
For this reason, I'm recommending a way to remove malware that handles just about any problem.
1) Download either Kapersky Internet Security, which offers a free 30 day trial at
http://kapersky.com or F-Secure's Complete Internet security suite, which offers a free thirty day trial: https://store.f-secure.com/cgi-bin/dlreg/ml=EN?ID=FSISTB&desid=TRIAL
2) Disconnect from the Internet.
3) Uninstall McAfee. This is absolutely essential because otherwise it and F-Secure or Kapersky will fight each other and might crash your computer. It isn't good enough to just turn off your old antivirus because it may have been crippled by your virus infection.
4) Install your Internet Security product. Download any updates available.
5) Run a complete scan of your computer. Follow any instructions it might give you.
6) Reboot. Scan again.
If this works, you can either keep your new Internet Security product or uninstall it and reinstall McAfee from either a download of the latest version from their website (if that's how they sell it) or from the disk it was on when you bought it. Be sure to get all the latest updates right away. Also make sure your version of McAfee includes protection against spyware, adware, and provides a firewall. Usually antivirus companies are pretty good about updating their programs whenever some new attack becomes able to evade or cripple their product.
