QUESTION: Hi Brian.

My keyboard seems to be doing weird things. The letter 'k' will log me out, the letter 'i' does this ъну and the arrow buttons bring up search boxes. Н i press the F2 key at the same time as pressing the letters i & k they work.

I read on another question here that you thought it may be due to sticky keys, a faulty keyboard or similar. Do you think this is the case for me?

A while ago a virus was detected which i thought i had deleted and i have done security scans with AVG and avira recently and neither have shown there to be a virus.

This is really very annoying and i havent got a clue what to do other than throw the laptop in the bin! It is a Toshiba 'Portege' model no PP401E-1FCDF-EN.

Any advice would be gratefully accepted. Thank you.

The Refuse Collector would be very pleased if you tossed it, but before you give him a late Christmas gift, let's see if we can't get it working right again.  First, let's check for any malware that the scans may have missed.  Please download HijackThis to your desktop from here:
http://www.trendsecure.com/portal/en-US/_download/HJTInstall.exe
Make sure you close EVERY open window and ALL browser windows. The only thing that should be open is the HijackThis program.
Double-click on the file you just downloaded.
Click on the "Install" button.
Upon install, HijackThis should open for you.
Should it not open, go to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis and double click on HijackThis.exe
Choose 'Do a system scan and save a log file'.
Copy the text file which opens in Notepad and paste it in your follow-up.
   * Do not fix any entries in HijackThis, as they may be harmless.

There are a few instances of malware in the HJT log, so I will need you to run a scan as follows:

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your desktop from here:

http://www.besttechie.net/tools/mbam-setup.exe

Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
* At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to
o Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
* then click Finish.
* If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.  Do not run a scan yet.

Restart the computer in Safe Mode by continuously tapping the F8 key on boot until a black screen with a menu appears.  Choose to Start Windows in Safe Mode.  Log on as usual.  Open Malwarebytes and run a Full Scan.

* When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
* Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
* When completed, a log will open in Notepad.  Save that log and reboot normally.
* After rebooting, copy and paste to me the Malwarebytes scan and a new HJT scan log.

Hi Sarah

I don't believe that the MBAM log you posted was correct.  No matter however, as the entries I saw in your first HJT log are now gone.  I just need you to run one more scan with Combofix before we address the keyboard issue.  Please download ComboFix from this link:
http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe
Save it to your desktop.
Double-click on the ComboFix icon found on your desktop. Please note, that once you start ComboFix you should not click anywhere on the ComboFix window as it can cause the program to stall.  You should now press the number 1 key and then press the enter key to continue.  ComboFix will now start scanning your computer for known infections. This procedure can take some time, so please be patient.  If you see your Windows desktop disappear, do not worry. This is normal and ComboFix will restore your desktop before it is finished. Eventually you will see a new screen that states the program is almost finished and telling you the programs log file, or report, will be located at C:\ComboFix.txt.  It will then display the log file automatically for you.  I will need you to copy and paste that log in a follow up here, along with a new HJT log.
