Question
QUESTION: The Lady of the House, wants her laptop working again virus free! And, she's literally on my last nerve, please help!

After reading several of your reply's, I'm pretty sure you can help. We are experiencing the following Trojan's:
Trojan Horse Vundo.DN, DO, and DM; with lot's of pop-up's, blue screen's, and AVG 8.0 sirens listing the numerous trojan viruses!

At present, I have downloaded and installed HJT, SuperAntiSpyware (not installed yet); and considering downloads: Vundofix, VirtumundoBegone, Dr. Web Curelt (are these necessary)???

Here's the HJT logfile as suggested:

ANSWER: Hi William

From your log, it seems that you have two antivirus programs, AVG and NOD32, running on the laptop.  This will cause system instability, so you will need to uninstall one.  Next, please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your desktop from here:

http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php

Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
* At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to
   o Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
   o and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
* then click Finish.
* If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
* Once the program has loaded, select Perform full scan, then click Scan.
* When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
* Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
* When completed, a log will open in Notepad.  Copy that log into a follow-up, along with a new HJT log.

QUESTION: Hey Brian,

Thanks for your reply! Prior to receiving your reply, I had ran Vundofix (no corrupt files found); SAS (Corrupt files found); SmitFraudfix (no files found)...

After running all the above we had thought we solved the problem, no pop-ups, etc. However, later this evening, BLUE SCREEN and the computer immediately rebooted!

Upon receiving your reply, I uninstalled AVG (but don't see NOD32 icon in tray?) and installed and ran the Malwarebytes 'Anti-Malware software. The computer blue screened twice around 20,000 items scanned. I immediately ran the software in safe mode and 37 Vundo trojans were found, quarantined, and removed, expect two which would be removed upon rebooting the computer. Here's the HJT scan and log:

ANSWER: Hi William

Open HJT and run a Scan Only. Place a check mark in the box next to the following items, close any open browsers, then click the Fix Checked button:

O20 - AppInit_DLLs: uksnbp.dll
O20 - Winlogon Notify: efcCrPhf - efcCrPhf.dll (file missing)

After fixing, close HJT and reboot.  Post me a fresh HJT log so I can check that everything is gone.

It's me, William, again! Vundo, has returned? I'm thinking it's a result of a memory stick. We have 3 different memory sticks used via this laptop. Is this possible?

Answer
Open HJT and run a Scan Only.  Place a check mark next to the following items, close all open browsers and windows, then click the Fix Checked button:

O18 - Filter hijack: text/html - {b5a348ee-b747-4217-b91e-7aaf8cbd8de8} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\mst122.dll
O20 - AppInit_DLLs: ehofum.dll

After fixing, close HJT.  Next, download Pocket Killbox to your desktop from here:

http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/spyware/KillBox.exe

Double-click to run Killbox.  Copy the following into the dropdown box:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\mst122.dll

Check to Delete On Reboot.
Click the Red Circle with the white X.
Now reboot the computer and post me a fresh HJT log.
