Computer Security & Viruses/Trend Micro Antivirus

Question
Hi James,

My new computer with Vista, Trend Micro, and Webroot, takes exactly 1 minute and 45 seconds after I turn it on to load my programs, and before I can access anything. Trend Micro is the last to load.

I was told by the Geek Squad that Trend Micro is not totally compatible with Vista and/or Webroot, and Trend Micro either has a 'fix' patch or soon will have one. Trend Micro does not confirm this and told me that 105 seconds is normal, even good.

All of the boxes in my msconfg start-up tab are checked.

Is this correct? What do you think? Thank you and Regards, Ken.

Answer
Some say Vista takes longer to start-up than other systems:

Then there's Trend Micro:

(Insufficient resources and Trend Micro and OfficeScan - not sure if it's a problem in the current version).

Then there's Webroot:

And, if you're using Webroot Spy Sweeper with Anti-virus and Trend Micro Anti-virus at the same time, one of them has to be disabled or removed. Only one anti-virus and firewall enabled on a system at a time. (Enrgy21.com has links to anti-virus and firewall basics if you need it).

Bottom line: Some reconfiguring can done to speed load time. Without knowing exactly what versions you have, and which ones are enabled and actively running at the same time, hard to pinpoint the best options for you. Just provide more info if necessary.
