Computer Security & Viruses/Adobe virus

Question
I have been plagued with a virus that corrupts my media stuff, including adobe, realmedia, etc.  I have had this on my old pc and it's followed me to my new pc.  My security program (Kaspersky) is very good ( it caught keyloggers on my old pc, something no other program did), but it doesn't seem capable of getting rid of this one.

Originally I got it from a message that appears at the top of the acreen saying Adobe wants to "update" your pc, etc.  Apparently I believed it and clicked on it.  Could never use youtube or any other media thing since.

Even though I have the virus now, I still get messages contantly from the same source.  I never hear anyone else with this; have you heard of it and can I get rid of it?

thanks for any help,

Kath

Answer
Hi Kath

It actually doesn't sound like a virus.  Instead, it may actually be from Adobe.  Your Adobe Flash may not be installed properly.  But, let's first rule out a virus.  Please download HijackThis to your desktop from here:
http://www.trendsecure.com/portal/en-US/_download/HJTInstall.exe
Make sure you close EVERY open window and ALL browser windows. The only thing that should be open is the HijackThis program.
Double-click on the file you just downloaded.
Click on the "Install" button.
Upon install, HijackThis should open for you.
Should it not open, go to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis and double click on HijackThis.exe
Choose 'Do a system scan and save a log file'.
Copy the text file which opens in Notepad and paste it in your follow-up to me.
   * Do not fix any entries in HijackThis, as they may be harmless.
