Question QUESTION: Hi James just asked for followup but said that there had been too many.
I have noticed that there is something called AV2009 C:\Program Files\Antivirus 2009\AV2009.exe. Who is this related too?
I have disabled Adaware Live + disabled all except AVG in the system configuration utility.
Cheers
Peter
ANSWER: Peter,
It's a fake/rogue anti-virus program that displays fake information messages, conflicts with reputable programs and slows a system down. If it's in Add/Remove Programs, remove it from there first, then restart computer, run Malwarebytes, then remove temp files and restart. If it's not in Add/Remove, just run Malwarebytes, temp file cleaner, restart, run Malw...again.
Be sure to check Add/Remove Programs for any other suspicious software. If you're not sure what it is, use a search engine to find a description of it. You can add the words "Is it spyware?" for additional results.
Once successfully removed and no traces of it, you may want to allow one for more anti-spyware software to run at startup and/or monitor in real-time your system. One at time, and watch for error messages or the system slowing down.
After AV2009 removal and other tasks, is your system running faster?

QUESTION: Hi James its not in the Add/ remove i found it in the system configuration utility (startup). After doing all that it still appears in the system configuration utility. I have disabled it but still remains visable.
Under the search i typed Is it spyware and it bought up 2 x Antispyware, have i done something wrong?
Cheers
Peter
ANSWER: "...and it bought up 2 x Antispyware." Not sure what this means. Please explain.
About it being in the startup utility, did you run a full system Malwarebytes scan again and remove any threats found?
"IF the problem persists, turn OFF System Restore, Right click My computer > select Properties > System Restore Tab > Tick Turn Off System restore on all drives.
After scans are complete and machine is clean remember to turn system restore back ON and create a new restore point."

Am i typing it in the wrong place. I went start, search etc.
I have done a Malwarebytes scan, no threats found.
The computer has now quickened up, do i still turn OFF System Restore, Right click My computer > select Properties > System Restore Tab > Tick Turn Off System restore on all drives, it is still in the startup utility?

Answer HI Peter,
I believe my reply (following) was the last one. Was waiting for your response.

I would say no. No need to turn off system restore at this point - unless you really want to work on removing the left over AV2009 registry and/or temp file(s)
As long as it remains unchecked, it's not a threat.
There are several ways you can approach the issue of removing it even from the utility, but it really depends on how much time and effort you want to devote to this. If your system's running fine now, great. But if you want to pursue it, one or more of the following might eliminate it completely.
1. Show hidden files and folders and reboot
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/helpandsupport/learnmore/tips/hiddenfil...
2. Run a system (all files and folders) search for Antivirus 2009, AV2009.exe, AV2009, delete any entries found and reboot.
3. Use a registry cleaner - some free versions are available on Gizmo's Freeware site (enrgy21.com/sitetools - 4th column).
4. Disk Cleanup (system utility) might also remove it.
5. Run Malwarebytes again after showing hidden files and folders.
