How can i protect my machine from computer viruses

Answer
I use AVG free edition anti-virus software. It is one of the best rated anti-virus programs and it is free. You can download it from here: http://download.cnet.com/AVG-Anti-Virus-Free-Edition/3000-2239_4-10320142.html . Uninstall any other anti-virus software you have before installing AVG. Two av programs running at the same time will cause a system conflict.
