QuestionQUESTION: I found you while i was googling my computer's symptoms. the link i followed was regarding someone else having a possible virus or malware problem...manifesting in the form of his mouse being slow to respond. sometimes i have to click about 5-10 times on something because the clicks aren't being responsive. the cursor moves around the screen just fine...but if i try clicking on something...sometimes it is not registered so i have to click a few times..varying my speed...it's pretty random. i've tried adjusting the sensitivity settings but it's never the same again.
i also have problems with accessing some websites...such as gmail, facebook, and myspace.
i also know that the secret user account feature is being used on my computer, because i can see it when i log in on safe mode. but when i boot up w/out going into safe mode, it just logs me straight on to a user account, making me think it is my original administrator user account.
i've had to download a few spyware programs, and HJT on my living room computer so that i could install it on this computer because downloading applications doesn't work on this computer. every time i try downloading an application...my computer tries to save it as a BINARY file rather than an application.
that's all the problems i can think of/remember. embarrassingly...i attribute most of these problems to my internet porn addiction. if you wouldn't mind helping me out...i would greatly appreciate it.

ANSWER: Hi Zach,
Using Internet Explorer, go to:
http://security.symantec.com/sscv6/WelcomePage.asp
Click "Continue to Symantec Security Check", in the next window click No when asked if you want to close this window, that will bring you to a window where you should click Virus Detection.
Write down exactly anything it finds, then go to:
http://www.symantec.com/search/ and do a search for what was found. Symantec usually has a removal tool and/or directions for removing manually. Make sure that you follow the instructions for removal, step by step, especially the part regarding disabling System Restore.
I would also suggest downloading Malwarebytes Anti-Malware from:

QUESTION: thanks a lot Lorry. so there's still problems. i can get as far as clicking "next" at the "End-User License Agreement" page...but when i do...i get a message saying "Active X failed to load"
after trying a few more times i just go straight to a page that says "Unable to run Virus Detection" it gives me instructions on setting up Active X and Scriping....but it still won't let me finish the virus detection.
the Malwarebytes program worked...and found 15 bad items. here's the log before i clicked "Remove Selected" ...

Am assuming that you let Malwarebytes remove those items, correct?
Regarding the free Symantec, sometimes it easier just download the free 30 day trial of Norton AntiVirus 2010, once installed - check for updates,then run a full system scan. Very important, before the 30 days are up, make you sure you remove the program or you will be charged for it. You may download the trial version from:

QUESTION: thank you veeeery much Lorry. you've been the most help so far. I was able to use Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and a current trial version of Norton.
after doing full scans with both programs...the computer seemed better than ever...however...i am still not convinced i am clear of problems. right away...my problems of not being able to log in to facebook and gmail in my mozilla firefox browser went away...and i could log into them normally.
however..the next day those problems were back and i could no longer log in to those two sites. and my laggy mouse and it's laggy clicks were somewhat back..but not as bad. i decided to do another norton full scan and it found one adware file..which it got rid of. now i'm playing around with Norton Insight - Application Ratings feature....and found two files in the "Most Recently Installed" section which catch my attention:
23e49.msi has a Trust Level of "Good" when 90% of the other files in the list are "Norton Trusted" which i take to be more trusted than "Good". it also says under Norton Community Users, that the file has "Few Users" (less than 100 users in the Norton Community have the file) this file is also "Mature" (meaning it was released more than 31 days ago)
288d366.msi has --- as a Trust Level. it's suspicious to me. it is not deemed bad..yet...it doesn't get a positive rating either. it has "Very Few Users" (meaning FEWER THAN 10 ppl have this file in the Norton Community) and the file is less than 1 week old. this file concerns me. especially knowing there is NOTHING about it on google.

Not using NAV 2010 yet, I can only go by what I read at the above site. After reading that, I would say that the files are safe. The MSI file type is primarily associated with 'Windows Installer File' by Microsoft Corporation. Associates components with features and contains installation control information. Note: This file type can become infected and should be carefully scanned if someone sends you a file with this extension.
