Computer Security & Viruses - Registry Mechanic

Expert: James Filmer - 11/9/2009

Question
I found Registry Mechanic in my programs but don't believe it was there before. The Malwarebytes and antiSpyware did not flag it. Is this something my computer is suppose to have?

Answer
Zebbie:
A popular search engine will provide 100s of results about Registry Mechanic. I see no evidence that it comes bundled in or as spyware. Either you put it on, someone else, or it came with your system. I can't say for sure which one, but if you read about it on their website, you'll remove or keep it depending on your preferences.

Consider reviewing the subject.. Some think a registry cleaner isn't needed and should never be used and there are many different registry cleaners on the market, both free and paid versions.

There are rogue, fake registry cleaners as well. Read review from sites like Techsupportalert.com and others (additional links to reputable review sites - enrgy21.com/tools).

Since you don't remember putting it on, you could remove (Add/Remove Programs) Registry Mechanic, reboot and download again from a reputable download site, save installation to Desktop, install from desktop, read instructions and use. If not pleased with it, remove and try another. We've tried several and our favorite is RegSeeker (http://www.hoverdesk.net/freeware.htm), but only you can determine what's best for you.
