Computer Security & Viruses/cannot access security systems - follow up
Expert: James Filmer - 11/13/2009
Questionthe allexperts site said I used too many follow-ups and to start again...so my system is windows vista home basic on a dell inspiron laptop / 32 bit system. I hesitate to restore to an earlier state but would have to have that explained to me as to what I might lose that I have now. I've got windows security center back by switching from selective start-up to normal start-up in MSconfig and simply disabling the programs I didnt want using up memory in software explorer. but I still cant access superanti spyware or highjack this, I'm going to include a paste and copy of all the programs on my computer so you can look at them and then see where to go from there. I understand that I should uninstall all the java updates that are any that are not the most recent one ?( 13 on my system )is this true?
AnswerSimon,
Update: I don't think you should use remote assistance - gotoassist, unless you put it on your system to use, or you're sure it's completely disabled. If it came with your system, its fine it leave it on, disabled; but if it didn't, you should remove it.
Also, I suggested system restore only as a last resort and would like to know the results of your efforts to install an antivirus program before you consider the restore option.
Even though I prefer you install a reputable free antivirus program only (for now), one with a Firewall included will be OK too, but they're not free, except for the first 30 days trial versions.

Remove older Java but afterward, go to the Java site to make sure you have the latest successfully installed.
You'd don't lose your software when you restore your system to an earlier state. I can't explain it better than Microsoft which is why I provided the link.
Do you use DivX Web Player?
Also, remove Antispyware and Hijackthis. Reboot. See also if you can download and install CCleaner.com (link on enrgy21.com/tools).
Did you sign up for some remote assistance to a remote computer:

Are you on a dialup connection? (Netwaiting)
Also, as often as you wish, after removing HiJack, and Super... continue to try and download and install an antivirus (just a free antivirus - no firewall addition) AVG, Avira or another reputable one - see Techsupport Alert, and Claymania on Enrgy21.com and About.com
