Computer Security & Viruses - anti virus software

Expert: James Filmer - 11/5/2009

Question
My Norton anti-virus ran out. So I guess I need to download a copy of the software. Do you have any other anti-virus software that you think might be better or should I just use Norton?

Answer
Zebbie,

AVG 9.0 full or free version. There's a link on Enrgy21.com's home page for your convenience. Make sure to read carefully the differences between the two. If you install the trial version of AVG Internet Security, you'll need to remove your 3rd party Firewall since Internet Security includes a Firewall (see enrgy21.com Tip 14). If you're using the Windows Firewall that comes with your system, AVG Internet Security should disable it automatically.

If you install the free antivirus/antispyware only version, you'll need a Firewall; Windows(free), or Sunbelt, or Online Armor Firewalls full and free versions. There are others too.

If you wish to compare more Firewall and antivirus software see: Firewallguide.com and Claymania.com (a link on enrgy21.com's home page too).  Many companies are now offering complete security; Firewall, antivirus and antispyware bundled together. It's something to consider if you don't mind the price. One of those is Comodo Internet Security Pro, but there are several others like Norton and Trend Micro. Excellent reviews can be found via a search engine, and Gizmo's Techsupportalert.com (enrgy21.com/sitetools).
