Computer Security & Viruses/antivirus software

Question
I currently use McAfee antivirus software which is provided to me free by my ISP (comcast) and I have heard that because it takes up so much space on my PC, it could cause my computer to run slow. I use Firefox as my browser and am considering a free program such as AVG instead. My question is do you think it is advisable to switch, will it speed up my internet surfing, or do you recommend another sotware. Also, is AVG sufficient or would I need to add another program.

Answer
hey dave

remove McAfee and any other antivirus you might have. install these two programs (both are freeware and very good!)

SPYBOT & ANTIVIR FREE PERSONAL ANTIVIRUS

update both of them and perform a thorough scan using spyware first and then the anti-virus.

it should find all problems and fix them for you...works perfect for me. also they wont affect internet speed at all !

PS: Make sure to leave only ONE antivirus active :)
