Question
hi lorry,
i apologize in advance as i'm not sure if this is a wasting-your-time question, but i accidentally typed "304" in the address bar and pressed entered.  my norton immediately directed me to another page telling me that 304's a suspicious webpage.  i'm not too familiar with computers, but should i be worried?  i followed the webpages directions and clicked on the exit link it provided and scanned (with clean results) but am still unsure; should i trust in norton's results?  once again i apologize if i'm wasting your time with what may be a silly question.  thank you!

Answer
Hi Mary,

First of all you are not wasting my time, glad you asked this question. Norton was correct is alerting you, at that point you should of just clicked the "X" to close the window. To verify that there are no threats on the computer, even though you have Norton installed, using Internet Explorer, go to:

http://security.symantec.com/sscv6/WelcomePage.asp

Click "Continue to Symantec Security Check", in the next window click No when asked if you want to close this window, that will bring you to a window where you should click Virus Detection.

Write down exactly anything it finds, then go to: http://www.symantec.com/search/  and do a search for what was found. Symantec usually has a removal tool and/or directions for removing manually. Make sure that you follow the instructions for removal, step by step, especially the part regarding disabling System Restore.

Hope this helps!

This happens to be of interest to me as it boggles my mind that people have nothing better to do than to write a virus. Wish these people, the ones who write viruses would put the knowledge to good use instead. My job as a local tech involves removing viruses and/or spyware.
