Question
QUESTION: Hi,
My antivirus detected Exploit-PDF.f (Trojan) a few days ago, and there was a pop-up to download 1.pdf file. I didn't open the file.

Since then, my wireless internet connection has become erratic and unreliable. I tried to scan using Spybot, and there was nothing detected, but I suspect that there's still some malware that's not cleaned yet. I hope you can help me to find a way to fix this. Thanks!

QUESTION: Hi Brian,

Thanks for responding to my question. I have fixed the mentioned items using HijackThis. A couple of things that may be worth mentioning:
1. I went back to my antivirus history, and saw that there were a recurring detection of Generic.dx trojan. Is there a way to make sure that the trojan is gone?
2. I installed Spy Sweeper anti-spyware software, and it pops up every few minutes saying that it has blocked a connection to numerous websites such as BSA.SafetyDownload.com, Buhartes.info, cleancodec.com, etc. This leads me to believe that either the software is not reliable, or there is an unknown trojan. When I scanned using Spybot S&D and SpySweeper, they don't find anything. What do you think?

Let's get another opinion to see if there is something that your anti-malware programs are missing.  Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your desktop from here:

http://www.besttechie.net/tools/mbam-setup.exe

Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
* At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to
   o Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
   o and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
* then click Finish.
* If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
* Once the program has loaded, select Perform full scan, then click Scan.
* When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
* Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
* When completed, a log will open in Notepad.  Post me that log and a new HJT log in your next follow-up.

Thanks for the suggestion. Did what you mentioned, but there were nothing detected. So nothing was cleaned.

Do you think it's possible that there's a trojan lurking that opens connection to the malware infected websites as shown by Spy Sweeper (even though nothing was detected by Spybot/Malwarebytes)?

Hi Ari

If you are the only computer on the network, I don't see anything that would open connections to the sites you mentioned.  But let's try to dig a little deeper.  Please download ComboFix from this link:
http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe
Save it to your desktop.
Close all other security programs, as they will intefere with ComboFix.  Double-click on the ComboFix icon found on your desktop. Please note, that once you start ComboFix you should not click anywhere on the ComboFix window as it can cause the program to stall.  You should now press the number 1 key and then press the enter key to continue.  If ComboFix asks to install the Windows Recovery Console, please do so.  ComboFix will now start scanning your computer for known infections. This procedure can take some time, so please be patient.  If you see your Windows desktop disappear, do not worry. This is normal and ComboFix will restore your desktop before it is finished. ComboFix may also restart your computer.  Do not intervene.  Eventually you will see a new screen that states the program is almost finished and telling you the programs log file, or report, will be located at C:\ComboFix.txt.  It will then display the log file automatically for you.  Please post that log along with a new HJT log here in a follow up.
