Question
QUESTION: a computer my children use was not working and infected with issue that I assumed were corrected ater installing and running AVG internet security. The system runs fine now but when I log on internet using explorer and set the cookies setting in explorer to med level or any setting it will be lowered by itself to the lowest possible setting available allowing for all kinds of pop ups to occur. I don't want to allow my children to us this computer until I can control this. Can you help me.

ANSWER: Hi Rodney

There is still malware running on your system.  Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your desktop from here:
http://www.besttechie.net/tools/mbam-setup.exe
Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
* At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to
     o Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
     o and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
* then click Finish.
* If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
* Once the program has loaded, select Perform full scan, then click Scan.
* When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
* Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
* When completed, a log will open in Notepad.
* Post me a copy of that log, along with a new HJT log.

I have two malware log and one hijack log.

The first time I ran the malware it would not update. It however did update after the first scan and removal. second scan removed more and third showed nothing. Let me know i I look good to go. I have control over the cookie setting in windows now. Why did the AVG SECURITY SYSTEM not find this stuff and is it worth having to begin with?

Thank you sooooo much Brian.

Answer
Hi Rodney

AVG is good at preventing viruses from entering the computer.  Unfortunately, if something does get through your defenses, AVG does not remove it well, and can become disabled by the malware, leaving the door wide open for further infection.  I prefer Avast over AVG.  Check it out here:
http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html

I still see some signs of infection in your HJT log.  First, disable System Restore:
  1. Click Start, right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
  2. In the System Properties dialog box, click the System Restore tab.
  3. Click to select the Turn off System Restore check box. Or, click to select the Turn off System Restore on all drives check box.
  4. Click OK.
  5. When you receive the following message, click Yes to confirm that you want to turn off System Restore:
You have chosen to turn off System Restore. If you continue, all existing restore points will be deleted, and you will not be able to track or undo changes to your computer.

Do you want to turn off System Restore?
After a few moments, the System Properties dialog box closes.

Next, please start HJT and click to do a Scan Only.  Place a check mark in the box next to the following items, close all open browser windows, then click the Fix Checked button:

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {8836A9C2-770E-481F-98F5-A8966B2430C9} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\rqrQhedD.dll (file missing)
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Twain] C:\Documents and Settings\Nicole Mouton\Application Data\Twain\Twain.exe
O20 - AppInit_DLLs: ghqnjd.dll

After fixing, close HJT and reboot.

Next, please download ComboFix from this link:
http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe
Save it to your desktop.
Double-click on the ComboFix icon found on your desktop. Please note, that once you start ComboFix you should not click anywhere on the ComboFix window as it can cause the program to stall.  You should now press the number 1 key and then press the enter key to continue.  ComboFix will now start scanning your computer for known infections. This procedure can take some time, so please be patient.  If you see your Windows desktop disappear, do not worry. This is normal and ComboFix will restore your desktop before it is finished. ComboFix may also restart your computer.  Do not intervene.  Eventually you will see a new screen that states the program is almost finished and telling you the programs log file, or report, will be located at C:\ComboFix.txt.  It will then display the log file automatically for you.

Post me the ComboFix log, along with a new HJT log in a follow up.
