Question
Keith:

Hi!  I need your help.

My BitDefender Antivirus software gave me the following message:

BitDefender has blocked a virus affecting your computer!

Virus Name:  trojan.downloader.fakeav.ah

Location:  spywareprotectiontool.com/2009/142/?a=cspvm-sst&l=370&f=cs_11617120014&ex=1&ed=2&sub=csp&prodabbr=USRM.

I ran my av scan again with no results.  I cleaned out my registry.  I'm still getting multiple pop-ups advising me to download new protection software.

I know if I click on any of those pop-ups I'm REALLY going to regret it.  How do I get rid of this thing?

Answer
Try AVG anti-virus. Download it from here http://download.cnet.com/AVG-Anti-Virus-Free-Edition/3000-2239_4-10320142.html

Also try to download and install Spybot Search and Destroy, install, update and run a scan. You can get it here: http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.html

I am not familiar with Bit Defender but have been virus and malware free for close to 8 years by using Spybot S and D and AVG Anti-virus. Both are free.
