Question
QUESTION: My laptop has a virus. I went to Office Depot and they confirmed this.I do not have any Internet acess on my Lap Top.A Malware Name A-Trojan 2.0 appears. Hopefully you may be able to help me.Looking forward to your email. Thank You Rudy

ANSWER: Hi Rudy,

Surprised to hear that Office Depot confirmed that there was a threat on the laptop but wouldn't remove it for you - strange. Try downloading Malwarebytes Anti-Malware 1.36, put it on a CD, install on the laptop and run a scan.

Download AVG, put that on the CD as above, then run a scan.

QUESTION: Lorry I have tried to run the avg scan but the virus will not let my lap top connect to the Internet. Tried using wireless and direct connections with no success. Is there something else I could try.Thank You Rudy

Answer
Hi Rudy,

You can run the AVG scan from the CD, it just will not have the latest protection - you do not have to be on-line.

If the above doesn't do the trick, I wold suggest taking it to the local repair shop, have them backup anything of importance and then do a clean install of Windows.

Hope this helps!

Experience

This happens to be of interest to me as it boggles my mind that people have nothing better to do than to write a virus. Wish these people, the ones who write viruses would put the knowledge to good use instead. My job as a local tech involves removing viruses and/or spyware.
