Computer Security & Viruses/personal antivirus removal

Question
QUESTION: My wife may have accidentally had a pop up prompting her to run a scan for virus and clicked on it and now we constantly have a box popping up telling us we need to scan for virus and there is also now a shortcut for personal antivirus on our desktop.  I want to completely remove it and dont even see it anywhere in our list of programs.  We have vista and have mcaffe internet security and just a couple days ago I installed adaware free version which I have used in past with no problems and it has free realtime protection as well.  Its strange that we suddenly have this pop up just a couple days after installing adaware.  I am reluctant to do any online banking or anything until I know the pc is clean.  Will adaware or mcaffee completely remove it?  Why does it not show up in the remove programs folder?

ANSWER: Hi james,

What is the name and version of the scan-for-virus application in the pop-up or the shortcut on the desktop? You can right-click the shortcut and click Properties if necessary.
