QUESTION: I was reading a last year post (3/29/2008) .about  Buffer Overflow Blocked" warning with an .avi file  well this  it’s happening to me now …I did what you said on this post “ disable de overflow” just in report mode ,  and also a did put the name of the issue on the exclusions. So now when I try to open any .avi file the message appear …it don’t block the process ..but the system immediately crash and stop…until I just end to the task the folder containing the  file…my question …what that matter whit  it…what  do I do now.??   This only happen whit McAfee 2008? If I just  change the antivirus software , this will help or  it’s to risky..thanks for your help  ..

First, try installing the latest AVI Codec pack from here:

If that does not work, you can certainly uninstall McAfee.  If you need a good free anti-virus program, try Avast Home Edition.  You can download it from here:
http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html
Just make sure you completely uninstall McAfee first by using the removal tool found here:
http://download.mcafee.com/products/licensed/cust_support_patches/MCPR.exe

QUESTION: i'v done everything you said. the codec pack did not work....but i install the 2009 McAffe product...and  gues what.?? same thing...so is it happen just whit McAffe antivirus sofware or if i istall the free one you are telling me (avast) this it realy stop the matter>???? thanks  again and i'm soory about my english i'm just learning...thanks again

Your english is fine, so don't worry.  I would like to check your computer for malware, as this may cause the buffer problem.  Please download TrendMicro HijackThis! from the following link:
http://www.trendsecure.com/portal/en-US/_download/HJTInstall.exe
* Save HJTInstall.exe to your desktop.
* Doubleclick on the HJTInstall.exe icon on your desktop.
* By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis.
* Click on Install.
* It will create a HijackThis icon on the desktop.
* Once installed, it will launch Hijackthis.
* Click on the Do a system scan and save a log file button. It will scan and the log should open in notepad.
* Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" and Paste the entire contents of the log into a follow-up to me.

Hi John

You have worms, trojans, and a keylogger installed and running on your system.  This could definitely be the cause of your problems.  Let's begin the cleanup by removing temporary files.  Click Start->Run->then type in the box 'cleanmgr' (without the quotes) and hit enter.  This will begin Windows cleanup utility.  Once it has completed, follow the steps below:

Boot the computer into safe mode.  Upon starting the computer, keep tapping the F8 key until a menu appears.  Choose to start Windows in Safe Mode with Networking.  If it then gives you an option, choose to log on as Administrator.  Once logged on, open a browser and continue below:

Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your desktop from here:

Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
* At the end of the install update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and run a full scan.
* When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
* Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
* When completed, a log will open in Notepad.  Save that log and reboot normally.  

After rebooting, post me the Malwarebytes log and a new HJT log.
