Computer Security & Viruses/Unable to access McAfee

Question
Hi...
I can't access McAfee's website by any means. I keep getting this HTTP 501 Not Implemented or HTTP 505 Version Not Supported error message. I noticed a message about the latest McAfee Update was not downloaded property (paraphrasing) and to reinstall McAfee Virus Scan Plus.  Also, I've noticed occassional redirecting to other sites when online.  Spyware/McAfee picks up nothing, but something is going on.  Is it time to call a tech?  I am NOT experienced in any removal, HIJACKTHIS logs I've seen, etc.  Thanks!

Answer
There are several viruses out that target McAfee. Although, what it sounds like you have is not too bad, the first thing I would do is download Malwarebytes and Spybot Search and Destroy. They will detect and remove anything other than the worst viruses. I will list the links below. I would also advise you, unless you are dead set on it to change to AVG anti-virus. It is free and is rated higher than many of the high priced anti-virus programs such as McAfee and Norton's.

Malwarebytes- www.malwarebytes.org - the free version will do. After downloading and installing run a scan and see what it detects and remove it.

Spybot- http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/ - Download, install, and follow the instructions to check for problems, immunize, and remove problems. It may say you need to reboot to remove all problems. Note: Uncheck the teatimer part of the program upon installation.

Get back with me on the results.

AVG anti-virus- http://download.cnet.com/AVG-Anti-Virus-Free-Edition/3000-2239_4-10320142.html

Let me know how it goes and if I can help further.
