About Lorry
Expertise
I can answer most questions regarding viruses/Trojans and help to remove them.

Experience
This happens to be of interest to me as it boggles my mind that people have nothing better to do than to write a virus. Wish these people, the ones who write viruses would put the knowledge to good use instead. My job as a local tech involves removing viruses and/or spyware.

Computer Security & Viruses - Some clarification of “is my computer is safe”

Expert: Lorry - 6/10/2009

Question
I am stuck on some steps “Downloading Virus Detection controls. Please wait...”  and waiting for a long time. I shall retry.
But just tell me what you have suggested means removal of Symantec antivirus 10.0.0.359 and installing Malwarebytes Anti-Malware 1.37 for future use. I am sorry if I am asking a silly question, as I am compute user, It is not my field.
Thanks for spending your precious time.
Regards
Kalimullah

Answer
Hi Kalimullah,

There is no such thing as a silly question. The free virus check from Symantec does take quite awhile, depending on how many files are on the hard drive, make sure you when you go to the site that you are there until it starts the actual scanning.

Regarding Malwarebytes Anti-Malware 1.37 I would suggest scanning with this program every other week or every third week.

As mentioned in earlier post, I don't think you have a legit. copy of NAV. You might but I doubt it as you were not asked for any product id numbers when installing - very stramge as NAV needs to be activated.

AVG or AVAST are both good free AV programs available on-line. Check them out at:

http://download.cnet.com/Avast-Home-Edition-Free/3000-2239_4-10019223.html?tag=m...

If you decide to keep the Symantec antivirus 10.0.0.359, that is up to you, but I would think about one of the above unless you can purchase a legit. copy of Symantec antivirus 10.0.0.359 (Norton AntiVirus). No matter which AV program you use, the two things to remember are keep it up to date and to run a virus scan once a week.

Hope this helps!
Lorry
