Computer Security & Viruses/Trojan Rootkit-agent.DX
Expert: Lorry - 7/9/2009
QuestionHi,
It will be great if you can help. I downloaded a pdf converter from the internet yesterday and my computer was running very well until a couple of hours later I ran a whole computer scan with AVG free and found Trojan Rootkit-agent.DX on my computer. The files were removed but a window keeps popping up saying there is something wrong with services.exe. If i ignore the message, a few minutes later there will be another message saying services.exe cannot run properly and the computer is going to restart in 1 minute, and begin counting down.
I've tried to stop services.exe to run but I couldn't. I am hoping I don't have to format my computer for it. Please help.
AnswerHi Queenie,
Using Internet Explorer, go to:
http://security.symantec.com/sscv6/WelcomePage.asp
Click "Continue to Symantec Security Check", in the next window click No when asked if you want to close this window, that will bring you to a window where you should click Virus Detection.
Write down exactly anything it finds, then go to:
http://www.symantec.com/search/ and do a search for what was found. Symantec usually has a removal tool and/or directions for removing manually. Make sure that you follow the instructions for removal, step by step, especially the part regarding disabling System Restore.
I would also suggest downloading Malwarebytes Anti-Malware 1.37 from:
http://download.cnet.com/Malwarebytes-Anti-Malware/3000-8022_4-10804572.html
Hope this helps!
