Computer Security & Viruses/Green AV
Expert: Brian Benosky - 9/1/2009
QuestionQUESTION: Hi Brian,
We had previously working on my problem with a Rogue virus called Green AV I had to reask another question as I had entered too many follow-ups. I tried the new advice and downloaded and ran a scan with the spybot search and destroy program. It popped up one box during the scan and said it had found one problem and I clicked to fix it. At the end of the scan it said it found 34 problems all of which were described at tracking cookies. I got rid of those and restarted and am still getting the same pop-ups. I have ran another hijack this scan and here is the log for that. Again thank you for your continued help it is much appreciated!

ANSWER: Hi Aspen
Start your computer in Safe Mode by tapping the F8 key on startup. Log on as usual. Start HJT and click to do a Scan Only. Place a check mark in the box next to the following items, close any open browser windows, then click the Fix Checked button:

After fixing, reboot the computer normally. Download HostsXpert4.3 from here:
http://www.funkytoad.com/download/HostsXpert.zip
* Unzip HostsXpert4.3 to a convenient folder such as C:\HostsXpert
* Run HostsXpert4.3 - Hosts File Manager from its new home
* Click "Make Hosts Writable?" in the upper right corner.
* Click Restore Original Hosts and then click OK.
* Click the X to exit the program.
Now reboot, post me a fresh HJT log, and let me know how the computer is running.

QUESTION: Hi Brian,
I rebooted my computer in safe mode and ran HijackThis. I did as you said and selected each of the files and clicked fix. On the first 11 files it popped up an error message #58 saying the file already existed. It did however remove the other 3. I then rebooted and noticed that the black command window or the windows:system32 box still popped up momentarily but the Green AV did not load in the task bar and there were no pop-ups. I then unzipped and ran the next program as you said and rebooted again. I again noticed the black window popped open and it flashed by pretty quickly but I did notice that it said in the box that something had been terminated. I know this black box popping up is not normal for my computer, however I don't know if its really anything to be concerned about. Here is my new HiJackThis log and again thank you very much for your help I appreciate it greatly!

ANSWER: Hi Aspen
We seem to be getting there, as the HJT log does not show signs of malware. The only error is the command box popping up at start. So let's try to determine what is causing it. First thing to check is that the ComboFix program was removed properly. Click Start-> then type "combofix /u" without the quotes and press enter. Note the space between the x and the /. Reboot the computer to see if that fixed anything. If not, start HJT and click to Open the Misc. Tools Section. Click to Generate Startup List Log. Notepad will open up with a list of your startup entries. Post me a copy of that list.

Well the combofix thing didn't fix it. So here is the other HiJackThis log you requested.

AnswerHi Aspen
I'd like for you to fix one more entry in HJT:
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [67569387646557683] C:\ProgramData\gra\wsn.bat
After fixing, reboot and see if that removes the cmd box. Also do another HJT scan to make sure the entry was removed. If not, try the fix in Safe Mode.
I would also like for you to run an online scan here:
http://onecare.live.com/site/en-us/default.htm
Let me know if anything else was found. But I believe we may be nearly finished. *crosses fingers*
