ANSWER: Hi Zebbie,

It's my understanding that it's part of Windows Live Toolbar. Go to Add/Remove programs and uninstall the Live Toolbar and reboot (and Live desktop search if it's there)

Let me know if that works and if you're using at least one reputable antispyware application. If not, I'll recommend a few.

QUESTION: I removed the Windows Live Toolbar. Thank you!

I found on my computer something called 'Ad-aware 6'. Is this a good spyware?

ANSWER: Lavasoft's Ad-Adware is an excellent antispyware product. The one you have is an older version.

The newest is the Anniversary Edition. I'd suggest removing the old edition, restarting and downloading the trial (see Trial center) Pro or Plus, or the Free edition via Enrgy21.com's home page link. On their site are product and performance comparison charts pages too.

I might be able to give more advice (if you want or need it) by letting me know what Firewall, antivirus other antispyware applications are actually in use on your system?

QUESTION: Sorry but I can't find LavaSoft at the link above.

I'm using Norton AntiVirus and that's all.

Also, Internet Explorer 8 opens when I open Internet Explorer now. Internet Explorer 8 is asking to download, is that okay?

Zebbie,

The link is on the Enrgy21.com home page, bottom of the page, for Lavasoft Ad-Aware.

Yes, you should download and install Internet Explorer 8. Make sure you also download and install all critical security updates and restart your PC.

If you're using only Norton Antivirus and not the "Suite" that includes their Firewall, you're likely using the Windows Firewall.

If you're using Windows XP, please confirm this by clicking Start > Control Panel > Windows Security Center (icon) > Firewall to see what is active.
