QuestionI have a virus on my computer. I can download virus removal tools but it will not let me access them . I try to run the command prompt and it flashes up on the screen for a second then its gone. I there anything i can do too remove the virus manually or do you have any advice as to how I can remove the virus
AnswerHi David,
If you have an anti-virus program installed already, update it, then run a scan in Safe Mode. Not knowing what you have downloaded, I would do the following.
Using Internet Explorer, go to:
http://security.symantec.com/sscv6/WelcomePage.asp
Click "Continue to Symantec Security Check", in the next window click No when asked if you want to close this window, that will bring you to a window where you should click Virus Detection.
Write down exactly anything it finds, then go to:
http://www.symantec.com/search/ and do a search for what was found. Symantec usually has a removal tool and/or directions for removing manually. Make sure that you follow the instructions for removal, step by step, especially the part regarding disabling System Restore.
I would also suggest downloading Malwarebytes Anti-Malware 1.37 from:
http://download.cnet.com/Malwarebytes-Anti-Malware/3000-8022_4-10804572.html
If you cannot run the free scan from Symantec as mentioned above, download the 30 day free, trial of Norton AntiVirus 2009, install and get the updates, then run a virus scan. If you cannot install it onto the computer, download it on another computer, put it onto a CD, then install on your computer from the CD.
Hope this helps!
