Computer Security & Viruses/changing to webroot

Question

Mr. Benosky,
I have an older Gateway with limited memory.  I recently renewed my Norton antivirus and upgraded to Norton 360.  It takes more space then I would like it too and slows my machine down.  I would like to change to Webroot.  My question is:  How do I switch from Norton 360 to Webroot?  Can I simply remove Norton in the Remove/Add Programs file and then download Webroot from their website?  Thanks for any advice you may have for me.
Chuck

Answer
Hi Chuck

As you have noticed, Norton takes up a great deal of space and resources.  This is partially due to it being intertwined so much with the Windows O/S.  To uninstall Norton, you will require the Norton Removal Tool which can be found below, along with the instructions for it's use:
http://service1.symantec.com/Support/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039
After running the tool, you may download and install any other security program you wish, including Webroot.  I do recommend that you try the free Avira Antivir, which is smaller and detects malware better than Webroot.  Check it out here:

If you need further help, just let me know.
