Question
We have 3 computers on our home network--the desktop is the main computer and then there are two laptops--the main computer is known to have malware and viruses so we don't turn it on --can we still get viruses on our laptops from the wireless connection to the desktop even it it is not turned on?

Answer
Hi Martha

No worries.  Your laptops cannot become infected as long as the desktop is off.  If the desktop is plugged into a modem or router, just disconnect it.  You can then turn on the desktop safely without fear of infecting the other computers.  On one of the laptops, download Avira AntiVir Rescue System from here:

http://www.free-av.com/en/products/12/avira_antivir_rescue_system.html

Once you click on the program, it will burn itself to a blank CD.  After burning, take that CD to the infected computer and place it in the CD drive, then boot up.  It will scan the computer for malware and clean it up so you will be able to use it on your network once again.  If you have any further questions, just let me know.
