Computer Security & Viruses/Too many security programs???
Expert: James Filmer - 1/11/2010
QuestionI have AVG9 installed on my computer along with Spybot S&D plus Adaware all of which have a resident program on my taskbar. I am running Windows XP (SP3) with 1Gb memory and was wondering if these programs are all necessary or can I delete any?
AnswerUpdate in response to "Knowledge" rating: Actually, it does matter what AVG9 edition you use.
http://www.avg.com/us-en/home-and-office-security-comparison
shows that two (of 3) editions have a Firewall, and 1 of 3 has Identity Protection and Anti-Spam. If you're using the ones with a Firewall, having another Firewall would be a mistake. If your edition has Identity Protection and Anti-Spam that might interfere with Spybot or Adaware depending on how you've configured them.
As far as having too much; with the above info in mind, No, you don't have too much and nothing needs to be removed unless you notice some conflict.

I don't know whether you're using the free or full version AV9.
Review what each offer, but Spybot S&D advanced features don't usually conflict with AVG - any version.
Ad-aware - again, need the exact version, then review with it does. No record of problems using all 3, but there are other threats; what you have, may not detect, block or remove them.
Just test any new security application, you can always remove it (as long as it's not rogue app). Are all your Taskbar Icons showing, including the inactive?
