Computer Security & Viruses/usb
Expert: James Filmer - 1/27/2010
Questionhi james,
first off i'm not exactly sure i'm asking in the right category so i apologize in advance if this is the wrong place.
anyway i have a 3 user norton internet security program and i think i've used it 3 times already; i was wondering if i made a copy and put it on a usb thingy and plugged it into my new pc, would it still work? i haven't tried it yet for fear that doing so would deactivate my subscription and also i don't really know how to copy files (does it involve just dragging the icon into the usb folder?)
and also one more thing, i was recently on a chinese government site, i think xinhuanet.com, by complate accident and my siteadvisor said that it was a dangerous website. i don't remember pressing anything on the site only the back button. would i be in danger of contracting anything? thank you
AnswerHi danny,
Do you mean an "up to 3 household PC" version? I believe the only thing that matters is whether it's a 1, 2 or 3 year version. I would thoroughly review your agreement with them, and ask the question in their official forum if you're still not sure.

About the China site, not knowing what browser you're using, I can't know whether you automatically accept all (for Session Only or Always) cookies (including 3 party), or block them.
If you know how, you might check for, and if you find any, remove their cookies. If you have questions about cookies, just ask, or see What is a Cookie (Enrgy21.com home page)
Other than the cookies (which alone are not considered serious threats), I don't think you're in danger of contracting anything, but keep Norton and any other security applications updated and run scans on a regular basis.
