Question
Hi Brian, is there such a thing as free scanner for virus/malware on line that you dont need to download and save on the computer.  I would like to run a check monthly to make sure my installed security software is correct when it scans.  The ones I have found you need to download and save onto the computer.  I am trying to avoid installing new stuff on my pc as it is  slow already.  Thank you.

All online scanners need to install something on your computer in order for the host program to communicate with your PC.  Generally, they install small Java or ActiveX scripts...nothing that will slow things down, as they only run when you open the program to run the scan.  I recommend ESET Online Scanner.  Check out their FAQ here:
