Computer Security & Viruses/facebook virus

Question
Hi,

I had an email sent out from my facebook account to work colleagues who are my 'friends' on facebook and I definately did not send it.  It was an inappropriate email sent and a complaint has been filed against me at my place of work. They have looked at my computer logs and it says I accessed the site from my work computer at the time the email was sent and it was sent to this specific individual. For this reason they do not believe that it was a virus/spam. I know in my heart I did not send the email but how can I prove it was not me? Can a virus send an email from my facebook account to just one person at a time? Others received the same email but not at that particular time. I ran avg and norton and they said i had threats and spyware on my computer. Can this cause the spam email to have been sent? Your help is appreciated.

Answer
Hi Asfa,

It is very possible that someone got into your Facebook account and sent the messages. I would suggest downloading Malwarebytes Anti-Malware 1.44, a free program available at:

http://download.cnet.com/Malwarebytes-Anti-Malware/3000-8022_4-10804572.html

Check for updates and then run a full scan.

You mentioned you ran a scan from Norton, was that by going to the following site and clicking on Continue to Symantec Security check?

Hope this helps!

This happens to be of interest to me as it boggles my mind that people have nothing better to do than to write a virus. Wish these people, the ones who write viruses would put the knowledge to good use instead. My job as a local tech involves removing viruses and/or spyware.
