Computer Security & Viruses/viruses

Question
I somehow managed to get some viruses onto my computer that were causing it to do weird things.  So I decided to put it in safe mode.  In there I found something that allows me to do a system recovery or something like that.  Basically it sets my computer settings and downloads back to a date that I specify.  I was wondering if this actually removed the viruses or not.  Is there any way to know? Please let me know.  Thanks.

Infected files are not removed, and re-infection (all forms of spyware and viruses) can re-infect your system.

See more info about System Restore here: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-vista/System-Restore-frequently-asked...
(applies to most Windows versions)

Hopefully, you have a reputable anti-virus always monitoring your system. If not, let me know.
Also, I'd have at least 2 anti-spyware applications (see Enrgy21.com for more info), but need to know your system, anti-virus, Firewall and other security apps you use.
