Question
dear brian
i don't know if you can help me or point me in the direction of someone who can..i'm an ex pat living in the states..i am pretty new on here and must have left my username and password  for my google account lying around.stupid i know... someone maliciously posted a pretty libelous and nasty remark about me which if you type into google you can see...type in to the goolge search "steve levine syracuse ny" and you'll see.....this actually impugns my reputation and marriage and could be extremely damaging if seen by my family (wife 4 kids 2 grandchildren) or friends..my Mrs is not the sort to disbelieve this sort of crap.....as a total beginner i immediately panicked and shut down the  Google account hoping that the "cache" would disappear.....some experts say that in time it will go now the account doesn't exist anymore....i have tried to contact google to reopen the account just for long enough to get this removed but they won't do it saying i'm not giving them enough info about myself  to do that...i have no idea what they are talking about....i have given them everything i can think of....but to no avail.....can you help me or suggest someone or some category in here where i might find some help THAT I UNDERSTAND i have even written to the Google headquarters in Ca. to try to embarrass them into having something done.....i'll even pay if i need to
help me if you can...i'm fairly desperate

Answer
Hi Steve

I can certainly see why you don't want this page floating about.  The good news, as you've found, is that the page was taken down.  Once Google re-indexes the site, the cache will be gone as well.  Unfortunately, I cannot say how long that will take.  I can be days or months.  Good information can be found below, including links to support requests:
http://googlewebmastercentral.blogspot.com/2007/04/requesting-removal-of-content...

I have made a request for the URL to be removed from their results page (using my own Google account).  From what I have read, the requests DO work, so give it a day or two to disappear from the search results.

The only other option, besides contacting Google, is to report this to local cyber crimes enforcement.  If any other personal data is compromised through knowledge of this password, you will have a much greater problem on your hands.  If you think other personal accounts are compromised, contact the Upstate New York Electronic Crimes Task Force:
Phone: 716-551-4401
Email: bufectf@einformation.usss.gov

Hope that helps.  Let me know how you make out.
