Computer Security & Viruses/SD card - data recovery.

Question
Ramon,

Hopefully you are the possessor of the solution to my issue. :)

I have an SD card I used for video of my toddler. The camera records mp4 videos. I pulled the card from the camera (as I had many times prior) to transfer the videos to my pc. When I stuck the card in, it said it needed formatting and wouldn't allow any access. I put it back in the cam & it said it needed formatting. I've tried accessing the card through 6 different free data recovery softwares & none can access anything. One of the "trial" softwares showed it finding many files during the scanning process yet none showed up at the end of the scan.

I just had a thought after meditating on the issue; do a "quick" format so the card is accessible but not fully wiped, then go use a data recovery software to dig out the files. What are your thoughts? Is that too risky? Is there another way? The videos on the card are priceless.

Greatly thank you in advance.

Chris

Answer
hi chris

by any chance have you tried another SD card reader? sometimes it happens that some readers just dont read the card and others do read it. i wouldnt risk a format at this stage but try and test the card on another reader.

see if you could try and let me know
