Question
QUESTION: Hey Brian,
I'm wondering do you know what this is or means: C:\WINDOWS\msvideo.dll
There's a message in a little box that pops up and it says "The application or DLL C:\WINDOWS\msvideo.dll is not a valid Windows image. Please check this against your installation diskette." So what I'm trying to get at is could this and the user mode that keeps popping up be connected by any chance?

ANSWER: Hi Rod

Even though you have run Malwarebytes, I would like to check for processes which may be causing these errors and pop-ups.  Please download HijackThis to your desktop from here:
http://www.trendsecure.com/portal/en-US/_download/HJTInstall.exe
Make sure you close EVERY open window and ALL browser windows. The only thing that should be open is the HijackThis program.
Double-click on the file you just downloaded.
Click on the "Install" button.
Upon install, HijackThis should open for you.
Should it not open, go to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis and double click on HijackThis.exe
Choose 'Do a system scan and save a log file'.
Copy the text file which opens in Notepad and paste it into a follow-up question.
   * Do not fix any entries in HijackThis, as they may be harmless.

Also, it is usually wise to have the most recent driver for your hardware, but you will not hurt anything by first uninstalling the newer driver, then installing the older one to check if that helps the issue.

Hi Rod

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you, as I've been away for a few days.  Let's try and remove the offending file.  Start HijackThis and run a Scan Only.  Place a check mark in the box next to the following entry:

O18 - Filter hijack: text/html - {ba87c3bc-1cf1-4e51-87f3-60680037f49a} - C:\WINDOWS\msvideo.dll

Now close any open browser windows and then click the Fix Checked button.  Reboot.
Next, go to the following site to run the Kaspersky Online Scan:

http://www.kaspersky.com/kos/english/languages/english/check.html?n=128121249412

Follow the instructions, and when completed, copy the Scan Report to me.
