Computer Security & Viruses/Help please

Question
Hi Brian

I'd appreciate any help you can give.  I think I've downloaded a virus, an icon has appeared on my desktop entitled Shredder.  I've tried to remove this programme to no avail, I've run Kaspersky several times, I've tried a system restore however it won't go back far enough.  My netbook is very slow, it wont close down any internet windows and my netbooks behaviour is getting progressively worse.

Can you help please?

Anna

Answer
Hi Anna

I'd be happy to help you out here.  Print out the following instructions:

Restart the computer in Safe Mode by continuously tapping the F8 key on boot until a black screen with a menu appears.  Choose to Start Windows in Safe Mode with Networking.  Log on as usual.

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your desktop from here:

http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/malwarebytes/mbam-setup.exe

Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
* At the end of the install, agree to update the program and run a scan.
* After updating, click the box to run a Full Scan.
* When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
* Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
* When completed, a log will open in Notepad.  Save that log to your desktop and reboot normally.

Next, please download HijackThis to your desktop from here:
http://www.trendsecure.com/portal/en-US/_download/HJTInstall.exe
Double-click on the file you just downloaded.
Upon install, HijackThis should open for you.
Choose 'Do a system scan and save a log file'.
Copy the text file which opens in Notepad and paste it into your follow-up to me, along with the log from Malwarebytes.
* Do not fix any entries in HijackThis, as they may be harmless.
