Question
Hi lorry,

I have the Free Edition that I downloaded of AVG. Now, yesterday it did it's automatic scanning of my computer as it always does in the afternoon, noontime.
But, it now at the time showed and I quickly saw the results a attention that needed well, something needed attention. I manually scanned my computer I saw
26 to 28 infection threats. I tried to remove these infection threats after the scanning was through, by remove all healed, but I couldn't. about half was removed the other
half couldn't be removed. I did a update as I always do and did a scan again as I do too ( I always once a week do a update and scan of my computer) and the threats
shows back up again, even the ones again that was removed came back. And the update and scanning that I always do once a week. But as I said I can not get rid of
these threats infection and the ones that were removed as I said they came back too. The infection threat it is called Trojan horse Adload_r.AKJ as it is spelled Trojan horse Adload_r.AKJ.
What am I to do? I hope you can help me out with this, Lorry can and could you help me with this? I certainly would appreciate it thanks Lorry.

Sincerely yours

Martin C. Meyer

P.S. Funny, I really don't thinks so now, but at the time yes, what I am saying is. I did a System Restore back two days before this happened with the infection threats I did a scan again with AVG
and it did not find anything no infection was found in the scan,. I did a Spybot too update and scan as I always do too once a week Spybot found four threats and that too could not be removed
after I did a System Restore Spybot was congradulations on the scan that it did not find anything (something like that) but it did not find anything. So, I did another update and scan with AVG and now the infection threats came back. I did too another update and scan of Spybot and nothing it did not find anything no infection threats as it did not find anything after I did a System Restore. Now, the reason I did AVG update and scan after I did not find no threats in the scan, well I would have found these infection threats next week as I found them or AVG found them again. Plus after doing a System Restore I thought it would be best I thought but still I would of have found them or AVG would have found these infection threats again next week as I said or I would have found it sooner with the automatic scan as I said that AVG does at noon time or other times it does it even at the early evening hours that it does an automatc scan. Again, Lorry do you think you can help me out with this? Again, thank you.

Sincerely yours,

Martin C. Meyer

Answer
Hi Martin,

Many times when removing virus and/or another kind of threat, you should disable system restore before removal. Reason being, if you don't, the threat will back there when you restart Windows.

At this point I would suggest using Internet Explorer, go to:

http://security.symantec.com/sscv6/WelcomePage.asp

Click on Continue to Symantec Security Check. Under Virus Detection, click Start, accept the End-User Agreement. It will ask you a few times to permission to install Active X Controls, answer yes. Once you see that the program is actually scanning, leave the computer alone until the scan is finished.

Once the scan is done, write down exactly anything it finds, then go to:

http://www.symantec.com/search/

and do a search for what was found. Symantec usually has a removal tool and/or directions for removing manually. Make sure that you follow the instructions for removal, step by step, especially the part regarding disabling System Restore.

I would also suggest downloading Malwarebytes Anti-Malware  from:

http://download.cnet.com/Malwarebytes-Anti-Malware/3000-8022_4-10804572.html?tag...

Check for updates after downloading Malwarebytes before running a scan. Like Spybot, being a free program, you must check for updates manually before running a scan.

Hope this helps!

This happens to be of interest to me as it boggles my mind that people have nothing better to do than to write a virus. Wish these people, the ones who write viruses would put the knowledge to good use instead. My job as a local tech involves removing viruses and/or spyware.
