Question
How new computer on dialup get minutes or hours of first updates for security suite and Windows, but no malware in that time window? Happened last time to me. Komando says "malware will hit unprotected cpr in seconds" Would greatly appreciate some wisdom to unwrap this conumdrum. I am mystified.

Answer
Hi Bill,

Usually an anti-virus program is preinstalled on new computers, that will be good for 3 to 6 months - a trial period. If your computer came with an AV installed, you should update and run a full scan before doing anything else.

Threats of any kind, viruses and/or spyware can attack a computer as soon as it is on-line. It is important to install an anti-virus program immediately and verify that Windows firewall is enabled before downloading anything, even from Windows Update. All it takes for these to have access is the user clicking a link, opening an attachment, or downloading a program from an unsafe site.

There is is a site that explains How Computer Viruses / Malware Attack? at:

Hope this helps!

This happens to be of interest to me as it boggles my mind that people have nothing better to do than to write a virus. Wish these people, the ones who write viruses would put the knowledge to good use instead. My job as a local tech involves removing viruses and/or spyware.
