Computer Security & Viruses/Thermal Event

Question
Dell Dimension 3000 running XP. Received message of some type of Thermal Event when starting up computer. Any thoughts? Thank you!

Answer
Hi Jaye

Dell has a history of problems with the their motherboards and the Thermal Event warning.  But before blaming Dell entirely, let's see if a simple clean up will fix things.  Open your computer case as described here:

Take a can of compressed air and clean the components and vents according to instructions here:

Dust buildup is the biggest cause of computer overheating, so hopefully this will stop the thermal warnings.  If not, either the CPU fan is not cooling the CPU properly, or there is a motherboard problem.  Let me know how you make out.
