Computer Security & Viruses/Virus?

Question
Hi

I hope you can help me. I think i may have a virus or something that makes my computer crash. I have firefox installed as i find that it is less prone to getting problems compared to internet explorer. Recently i noticed that firefox has started crashing and from what i assume made the computer crash as well, and firefox did not show any crash report, sometimes the whole system crashes i.e i only saw the wallpaper on the desktop and everything else was gone. it would not allow me to restart from the desktop so i had to press the power button to shut it down. Sometimes only firefox would crash, (the mouse showing the loading sign but nothing would happen) and the rest of the programs would work fine. So i thought it maybe firefox as i had version 7 i thought it might be having some problems so i went for an older version. 3.6. But that crashed but not in the same way as before, it was mainly the addon and download window which would freeze. So i installed chrome to see if that froze, although all the program did not crash the individual tabs crashed. So i thought i would uninstall fully and and then install  3.6 again. But when i went to uninstall it it, part way through it froze/crashed, so i was unable to uninstall it this way. So i deleted the mozilla folder in programs and deleted where the addons and bookmarks were installed and i installed again. now it seems to be working fine although it seems to be slower and seems to stall for a second and then continues. Plus when i started my computer just after the desktop loaded i saw a white window flash on just for a second before it vanished, as if something had loaded. then the same thing happened again before i turned on firefox, I would really appreciate any help, do you think i have a virus?

Thank You

Answer
Hi Jim

Sorry for the delay in getting to your question. It actually sounds more like a hardware issue, but let's first eliminate malware as the cause.
Restart the computer while tapping the F8 button continuously until a menu screen appears.  Choose to Boot Windows into Safe Mode With Networking.  Once in safe mode, open a browser and download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your desktop from here:

http://fileforum.betanews.com/download/Malwarebytes-AntiMalware/1186760019/1

Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
* At the end of the install, Malwarebytes will perform an update to it's definitions.
* Once the program has loaded, select Full scan, then click Scan.
* When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
* Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
* Reboot the computer normally.
* When completed, a log will open in Notepad.  Please save it to your desktop.

Copy the Malwarebytes log and paste it to me in a follow-up.
