Question
My permanently deleted emails come back after a few days and there are some extra deleted emails that come along, too.

I have windows vista. There was a "unknown alert" message in my windows defender log.

Do you know what this means?     Thank You

Answer
Who is your email provider - Hotmail, MSN, Gmail.  Do you have an anti-virus application running in the background at all times and updated daily? If not, http://antivirus.about.com/od/freeantivirussoftware/tp/freeantivirus.htm has some suggestions.

Windows Defender is not adequate protection against viruses.  If first time using an antivirus, don't buy, just test. If you have problems or just don't like it, try another (Add/Remove Programs) http://enrgy21.com also has links to reputable ones.

The alert message info can be found in the Help section of Windows Defender or on their forum. Not enough system info given to determine if it's some kind of malware or not.
