Computer Security & Viruses/Virus, Driver, or Keyboard

Question
My sister has a Toshiba L645D-S4040.  She was unable to sign in, kept getting an error message upon entering her password.  I used the "ease of access" feature and brought up the on screen keyboard.  With that I was able to log on.  I went into Word and typed the alphabet to see what was actually being typed.
    A=ZA
    C=C3 and what ever was previously typed
    M=M7
    N=N will automatically go before whatever is in front of
        it for example front would be frnot.
    V=VR4
    Y=Y6
    Z=ZA
All remaining letters type normally.  I tried to update the driver but received a message that it was the most recent version. I have Avira installed and scanned the computer and did not find any viruses.  I am not sure what else to do or if it is actually a bad keyboard.  Any suggestions?

Answer
Hi Pam

It does sound like a bad keyboard or a loose connection inside.  It's not difficult to replace the keyboard.  Instructions can be found here:

http://www.irisvista.com/tech/laptops/Toshiba-Satellite-L645D-L640D/remove-lapto

On Page 2 there is even a link to eBay for replacement keyboards.  They should cost around $30.

You can also first try plugging in a separate keyboard from a desktop PC to see if the problem still occurs.  If you need further help, let me know.
