Computer Security & Viruses/Day 2 after installing SP2

Question
Hi Brian,
Today is day 2 after finally getting windows updates by disabling UAC and getting to the point that I was able to install SP2.
Windows updates seemed to be installing OK. I had 8 this morning when I checked. I had to go into the program and check for the updates and click install. I'm not sure if that means the automatic part of updates is not functioning quite right or not, but at least they are installing.
After the reboot completed I checked for updates again. This time it said I had 2. I clicked on install. Shortly after I got this message:" Windows Live Essentials 2011. Couldn't install programs. You already have different build flavors of Windows Live. If you want to install this version, first uninstall the version that is installed on your computer." Under details it said Error:0x80280008. Source: Wait For Catalog. I don't have a clue as to what that means. So I just closed the window. After that it said updates installed.
After that when checking updates it basically tells me the same info about Windows Live Essentials 2011. I'm confused. I don't know what I need to do. Would you please steer me in the right direction and tell me what I should do?
  Thanks, Brian!
Jax

Answer
Hi Jax

It would be great if Windows Updates played nice with other Microsoft programs.  Try disabling UAC and the Windows Firewall again, uninstall Windows Live through your Control Panel, then check Windows Updates again.  Otherwise, if you don't use any of the components of Windows Live, it's not essential to Vista so you may not need it anyway.  Uncheck it in Windows Updates, right click on it and select to Hide Update so it won't keep bothering you.
