Question
I have Windows XP. I keep getting a pop up from MS Removal Tool saying that my computer is infected. It says I should install it now. I went to install it and they want money. When I Googled it I found it to be  a scam. It blocks me from getting into a lot of programs. Is there an easy way for me to delete it? It also shuts down my computer.

Answer
randy,

Boot Windows Safe Mode with Networking

The following link is to the Malwarebytes software. Download to desktop. Install on your system, download, install latest security updates. Run a full system scan. Scan completed, click “Show results“, check all rogue software and spyware, click “Remove Selected”, If prompted restart.

Free or full edition.

SUPERAntispyware
Spybot S&D
and Lavasoft Ad-Aware will also work. (links on enrgy21.com)

Note: To remove all traces of it after software removal, use a safe third party temp cleaner like CCleaner. There are a few other excellent ones TechsupportAlert and other quality sites recommend -  see enrgy21.com/tools for links to them.

If you have any problems (or if successful hopefully) let me know.
